About RSS

What are RSS Feeds?

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds are a convenient spam-free way to track new materials, news, or other content that is updated periodically. To read the material delivered in a feed, you need an RSS reader or news aggregator (see ‘Find an RSS Reader’ below). To subscribe to a library feed, click the orange RSS button; in the page that appears, copy the url and paste it into your reader. Or simply drag the orange RSS button into your reader. The method you use depends on your reader. See the instructions for the reader.

Find an RSS Reader

Some RSS readers are web-based. Others are installed on your computer. Some are free, and some are fee-based. Bloglines (www.bloglines.com) is a free web-based reader. Sharpreader (www.sharpreader.net) is a program you install on your computer. The Firefox browser has an RSS reader plug-in (www.mozilla.org). My Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) customization features include an RSS feed reader. For a list of readers, see http://blogspace.com/rss/readers.

Find other RSS Feeds

Several places collect lists of feeds. Among the popular ones are Bloglines (www.bloglines.com) and Feedster (http://feedfinder.feedster.com/)
